== History ==
During his time in Tvlakv's slave caravan, Kaladin managed to find a blackbane plant and hid a few blackbane leaves in a makeshift belt. One night he had taken them out to contemplate what he was actually planningplanned to do with them. The options includedEither trying to poison Tvlakv andor committing suicide if everything got to be too much. He ended up accidentally crushing and subsequently loosing them in his anger over Tvlakv's execution of a sick slave. [[Sylphrena|Syl]] was curious about the leaves but Kaladin was reluctant to tell her anything{{book ref|sa1|2}}. Later, Syl tracks down a blackbane leaf for Kaladin in a misguided attempt to cheer him up when things are going badly in [[Bridge Four]]. She gets back with it as Kaladin is getting ready to give up and jump into the [[Honor Chasm]]. She was unaware that blackbane is poisonous, but had noticed that Kaladin seemed to gobecome downhilldepressed after loosing the leaves. She hoped that having a new one would cheer him up and renew his desire to fight.{{book ref|sa1|11}} Thanks to this kind (though misguided) action on Syl's part, Kaladin decides against jumping and returns to [[Bridge Four]] with renewed purpose.
[[Wikim Davar|Wikim]] gave [[Shallan]] the bag of dried blackbane that he had been carrying for over a year , to indicate that he no longer wanted to kill himself due to her compassion in directing his study.{{book ref|sa2|48}} She eventually used it in an attempt to kill her father [[Lin Davar|Lin]] after he killed his wife [[Malise Gevelmar]].{{book ref|sa2|73}}
