They have magical powers which are caused by a symbiont from [[Patji's Eye]]. One type is able to disguise their companion's cognitive activity from detection.
 
These birds have gainded cognative powers on account of consuming worms native to the islands while very young. Each power is diffrent for each type of bird. [[Kokerlii]] has the ablitlty to concel his mind and others around him from beasts that hunt by seeking out minds. [[Sixth of the Dusk (character)|Sixth of the Dusk]] raised a non-native bird on the isles, [[Sak]], and found that she also developed powers.
