Later, when Shallan had to clear the Oathgate platform as an escape route for the people of Kholinar, Shallan tries to banish it the same way she did with the [[Midnight mother|Midnight Mother]]. After trying to convince Shallan to indulge mindlessly, Ashertmarn retreated for reasons unknown.{{book ref|sa3|84}} He could have done it on an order from [[Odium]] to lead the people of Kholinar to the Oathgate, only to have it either kill them or deposit them in [[Shadesmar]].

* The names of all [[Unmade]] are derived from real-life mythology; however, in Ashertmarn's case, the original source is unclear.
