The ship ''[[First Dreams]]'' manages to approach Akinah, but the crew is poisoned by one of the Sleepless, who is actively preventing humans from reaching the island.{{book ref|sa3|i|4}} The Sleepless says that she is protecting a secret that could lead to the "end of worlds".{{book ref|sa3|i|4}} It is not clear if other Aimians are also protecting the island. Kaza makes it to shore and sees a larkin and the [[crem]]-encrusted ruins of the once-ornate city before dying.{{book ref|sa3|i|4}}
At least part of the reason the island is protected is due to one of the [[Dawnshard]]s definitely having been present at some point, but [[Brandon]] said whether it is still there is an open question.{{wob ref|13040}}
