Following completion of ''[[The Alloy of Law]]'' Brandon plotted out three more books, following the same characters, to finish the story. Brandon's goal is to beginbegun writing ''The Lost Metal'' in March/April, 2021,{{sots <ref>[brandonsanderson.com]</ref|2020}}> after he finishes the [[Skyward 3|third Skyward book]]; he plans to be done writing sometime around July 2021{{sots ref|2020}} so that book can be released in the Fall of 2022{{sots ref|2020}}. The book will likely begin with a [[Wayne]] flashback, rather than one of [[Wax]].{{wob ref|13838}}
