Following completion of ''[[The Alloy of Law]]'' Brandon plotted out three more books, following the same characters, to finish the story. Brandon's goal is to begin writing ''The Lost Metal'' in March/April, 2021,{{sots ref|2020}} after he finishes the [[Skyward 3|third Skyward book]]; he plans to be done writing sometime around July 2021{{sots ref|2020}} so that book can be released in the spring or summerFall of 2022{{sots ref|2020}}.
