The Order of Windrunners is an order of the Knights Radiant on Roshar.sa2

The Windrunners were Surgebinders who used the Surges of Adhesion and Gravitation, and they absorbed Stormlight from gems by inhalation. They formed a Nahel Bond with honorspren. The combination of Adhesion and Gravitation resulted in the three Lashings. Szeth was able to use the three Lashings by way of an Honorblade, assumed to have belonged to Jezrien, the order's patron. The glow of the Windrunners' Shardplate was blue.

The Third Ideal
The wording of the Ideal can be different between each Knight Radiant, as long as the meaning remains the same. Kaladin and Teft spoke this Ideal before they were able to form a weapon out of their honorspren, e.g. Shardblade, Shardspear, etc.

The Fourth Ideal
While this ideal is unknown currently it is probable that, upon achieving this Ideal, a Windrunner gains his Shardplate.sa3 It is hinted to have something to do with choosing to not save people.sa3

Kaladin almost swears this Ideal in Shadesmar, but falters, being unable to swear it.sa3

Adhesion
;Reverse Lashing:
By using the Reverse Lashing, a Surgebinder can increase the gravitational pull of an object, allowing themthe toinfused subtlyobject to pull nearby objects toward it. The Surgebinder must maintain contact with the object to Reverse Lash it. Items that are airborne are pulled more strongly towards the infused object.

Other abilitiesResonance
Due to a combination of their two surges, Windrunners have new, secondary effects, known as the Resonance.3625 The Windrunners' Resonance is strength of squires,6740915 which allows them to have many more squires than other Orders. After Kaladin swore the third oath, many of the bridgemen who worked under him were suddenly able to breathe Stormlight and heal.sa2 Later, Kaladin trains the bridgemen in sucking in Stormlight and using Lashings. However, their abilities are only present when Kaladin is nearby. Sigzil noted that they could use Stormlight effectively within thirty miles of Kaladin, and their maximum distance was fifty miles. Squires will lose access to their powers in an hour or two after the Windrunner leaves.sa3
;Stormriding:
Kaladin displayed the ability to ride the Highstorms, though it is unknown if this was an ability of all of the Knights Radiant, just the Windrunners, or if this was an unrelated ability specific to Kaladin. Stormriding also may be an affect of the Stormlight at the front of the Stormwall.
;Passive:
Stormlight grants three passive abilities. It heals him, it strengthens him, and it breaks his fall when he hits the ground.

;Squires
In the time before the Recreance the Windrunners were an Order with over a hundred members,sa1 and a considerable number of squires.sa2 They also reportedly had some issues with the order of the Skybreakers.sa2 At the beginning of the Recreance a large number of Windrunners along with many Stonewards abandoned their Shardblades and Shardplates before the fortress known as "Feverstone Keep", as seen in one of Dalinar's visions.sa1
At the end of Words of Radiance, many of the bridgemen who worked under Kaladin were suddenly able to breathe Stormlight and heal.sa2 Teft commented on this, saying that the visions that Dalinar published seem to indicate "that the orders of the Knights Radiant were made up of more than just the knights themselves." This occurred after Kaladin made the third oath and may explain the reference to them having squires. This is also similar to what is seen in Dalinar's vision, when a Knight Radiant and his squad are hunting the Purelake for an Unmade before a voidspren protector forms a thunderclast from the bedrock of the lake.sa2 Later, Kaladin trains the bridgemen in sucking in Stormlight and using Lashings. However, their abilities are only present when Kaladin is nearby. Sigzil noted that they could use Stormlight effectively within 30 miles of Kaladin, and their maximum distance was 50 miles.

They tended to serve as scouts and protectors.12085

The Refounded Windrunners
During the events of the battle at the Tower, bridge captain Kaladin says his second ideal as a Windrunner, allowing him to use his powers freely and to take up squires. This is the beginning of the Refounding of the Knight Radiant order of the Windrunners. Later on, the rest of Bridge Four begin the process of becoming Windrunners, with other bridge crews becoming squires as well. The order is used regularly in Urithiru for transportation of people and goods and are trained in The Shattered Plains.

The refounded order of Windrunners is well organized and maintains a strong military structure due to the fact that the order came about from bridge crews, originally run by Sadeas, and due to Kaladin's military training, which he passed on to his bridgemen. The sheer number of bridge crews, along with the Windrunners' Resonance, allows for numerous people to be Windrunner squires, making them one of, if not the most numerous of the modern orders.6740
