Those who join the Truthwatchers generally subscribe to a philosophy of finding the ultimate truth and sharing it.13776 The order is concerned with the fundamental truths of the universe, and whether or not those in power are being truthful with the people they lead.850016457 A small percentage of Truthwatchers are greatly concerned with the actions of the powerful and might be likened to investigative reporters.13776 The order will make their opinions known loudly and forcefully, particularly if they think someone in power is abusing that power or lying about fundamental truths. They tend to attract scientists, scholars, or thinkers of all types.

Abilities
The Truthwatchers use the Surges of Progression and Illumination.

Progression
Progression was used by Ym to heal a small boy's foot of an infectionsa2, and by Lift (an Edgedancer) to revive and heal Gawx after his throat was slit.sa2 Lift also used it to cause seeds to grow suddenly into plants. Renarin uses Progression to heal Adolin’s broken wrist. He also uses it to heal those who were injured when the Midnight Mother attacks Adolin and Bridge Four. The Stump also unknowingly uses it to heal people who come under her care. It is described in the Ars Arcanum at the end of Words of Radiance as "The Surge of Growth and Healing, or Regrowth".
Progression can be manipulated to alter the growth and healing of organisms. It is described as "The Surge of Growth and Healing, or Regrowth". This ability heals the damage done to the body and the soul of a person instantly and without any scarring.

Illumination
Illumination is used by Shallan Davar, member of the Order of Lightweavers, to craft illusions by weaving light, sound and various waveforms. usesThis thiscan be used to change her owntheir appearance for disguises or other purposes, create illusions of walls and rocks to hide behind and in, and to create illusions of herself to confuse or distract. TruthwatchersThere mayare be able to perform similar feats, however there may besome differences in how they use the Surge compared to Lightweavers.sa4

Enlightened
Illumination is used by Shallan Davar, member of the Order of Lightweavers, to craft illusions by weaving light, sound and various waveforms. She uses this to change her own appearance for disguises or other purposes, create illusions of walls and rocks to hide behind and in, and to create illusions of herself to confuse or distract. Truthwatchers may be able to perform similar feats, however there may be differences in how they use the Surge.
Truthwatchers who have had their mistspren Enlightened by Sja-anat have different abilities from standard Truthwatchers. Progression remains normal, still allowing the healing of themselves and others.sa4sa3 Where standard Truthwatchers can use Illumination to create illusions, Enlightened ones can only summon lights, which can sometimes act in strange and unnatural ways.sa4 Deeper connection to Rhythms can alter the Truthwatcher's abilities slightly.14488 An Enlightened Truthwatcher will have different oaths from a standard one.11872
We can see in Oathbringer that Renarin holds out a fist and summons stormlight in a beacon of light making the light in a Thunderclast's eyes fade away and killing it sa3, this could be a the power any radiant could use or part of a Truthwatchers powers of illumination, this is still not known yet. In Rhythm of War when Moash is tempting Kaladin to come to Odium after killing Roshone, Renarin comes in glowing to save Kaladin. While glowing this reveals a different version of Moash with a shardspear and a Bridge Four uniform causing him to slash at the image and run away. sa4

;Future Sight
This bond also allows the Radiant to see the visions of past and future events.sa2sa3 Renarin stated that this is because Truthwatchers are unique because "they see".sa2 Visions are shown through dark glass and show possible outcomes, but are not always accurate.sa4sa3 Other people are not able to see this glass.sa4 They do not come specifically from Odium, but since their powers come from him it is possible that his desires influence what the visions will show.sa4 This also has the added benefit of causing others who see the future to see the Truthwatcher and those close to them as a black spot, as those who see the future cause a conflict in Fortune.sa41187311882 The ability to see the future is related to the Voidbinding chart,8461 though the precise relationship between the powers and Voidbinding remains unclear.9541

Renarin Kholin saw the Everstorm coming even though he had no line of sight on it, and said that he could see the future, although he incorrectly predicted the death of himself and those around him.sa2 He also later stated that Truthwatchers are unique because "they see".sa2 It is implied that this ability comes from the corruption of his spren by Sja-anat's influence, and therefore might not be shared by other Truthwatchers
History
The ancient Truthwatchers were often scientists, scholars and tinkersthinkers; this led to them being perceived as quiet and rather esoteric in their pursuits. They tended to be reserved, though a group of them was always dedicated to monitoring the actions of the people in power on Roshar, and making their opinions on said actions heard far and wide if necessary. They particularly concerned themselves with abuse of power, as well as finding out the truth, though what constituted "truth" was a subject of some debate.13776

Truthwatchers would often engage in enthusiastic discussions on the topic of philosophy, particularly concerning the truth, even if many such conversations would take place only in writing. They were also interested in the more obscure crafts and sciences, such as new fabrials or technologies.13776

Notable Truthwatchers
* Renarin Kholin (bonded to Glys) considers himself to be a Truthwatcher,sa2 though Glys's corruption by Sja-anat makes his precise status unclear.
