The '''Expanse of the Densities''' is the [[Roshar]]an term for the [[Sel]]ish subastral of the [[Cognitive Realm]].{{wob ref|8595}}{{wob ref|10301}} After [[Splinter]]ing [[Devotion]] and [[Dominion]], [[Odium]] pushed their [[Investiture]] into the Cognitive Realm.{{au ref|sel}} Due to the contained nature of the space, that Investiture is in an incredibly dangerous and highly pressurized state, similar to plasma.{{wob ref|8241}} This Investiture fills the region as a deadly storm known as the [[Dor]] and is the reason Rosharans call the region the Expanse of the Densities.{{wob ref|10301}} It strains [[Hoid]]'s resources to safely travel there, but he has done it on occasion.{{wob ref|9500}}{{book ref|elantris|part=postscript}} As a result of this high concentration of Investiture outside of the [[Spiritual Realm]], there may be noticeable [[wikipedia: time dilation|time dilation]] in the region.{{wob ref|14822}}
