Despite being born to a noble house, Elend was not born with any allomancy. When he was a child, his father Straff had him beaten with the purposed of causing him to snap, but he was unable to demonstrate any powers. After nearly dying from Kelseir's knife wound while releasing Ruin from the Well of Ascension, Elend invests a [[lerasium]] bead, and develops Allomantic powers untainted by interbreeding. As a result of the purity of his allomancy, is Mistborn abilities are incredibly powerful.
In addition to his allomantic abilities, Elend is incredibly intelligent, and while studying under Tyndwill becomes very charismatic as well.{{expand}}
