The Sea of Lost Lights has numerous narow strips of land, corresponding to Physical rivers, and several small islands, equivalent to lakes.Sea of Lost Lights The land is made from a material akin to dark glass or obsidian.sa3 There are scant few plants growing, but the population of non-sapient spren is fairly sizeable.sa3 The strips of land are known as channels, and most of the notable ones correspond to Deathbend River and its tributaries.Alethkar They are:

History
At some point in recent past, honorspren attempted to conquer all of Shadesmar, including Sea of Lost Lights. The attempt left them with poor opinion among other sapient spren.sa3 For this reason, they are rare in places like Celebrant, although their warships still sail there.sa3

At the beginning of True Desolation, many cities in the Sea of Lost Lights were taken over by the Fused, although they ruled rather lightly, save for occassionally setting things on fire.sa3
Shallan, Azure, Adolin, and Kaladin get trapped in the Sea of Lost Lights after they attempt to use the Oathgate in Kholinar.cite Azure seems very knowledgeable about the place and says the way to get back to the Physical Realm is through Cultivation's Perpendicularity at the Horneater Peaks.cite The rivers in the Physical Realm become peninsulas here made of an obsidian-like material. There are plants growing on this, and Syl says they grow just like normal plants. They travel along the peninsula to a lighthouse at its end. Inside this lighthouse is a man, Riino, who Kaladin thinks is Shin, but is likely from Sel as he references the Korathi god. He claims that his orb can see the future. Kaladin looks in this orb and feels strongly that he needs to go to Thaylen City and thinks that Dalinar is in grave danger.cite

After attempting to use the Kholinar Oathgate, Shallan, Kaladin, their spren, as well as Adolin and Azure, got trapped in the Sea of Lost Lights.sa3 They travelled to Riino's lighthouse, where they managed to find a passage to Celebrant by a ship crewed by Reachers and pulled by Mandras.sa3 There, they were chased by the Fused and ended up taking refuge on a honorspren ship Honor's Path, which eventually ferried them to the shore, to the narrow peninsula separating it from Thaylen Sea.sa3sa3
They get a ride on a boat sailed by lightspren, or Reachers. The boats are pulled by Mandras, which have heads the look like Luckspren. The Reachers have fabrials that can create water. They are sailing to Celebrant, a city on an island that is the Sea of Spears in the Physical Realm. The captain says that they have perfect spheres there that never run out of Stormlight.cite
