In the north, years after the death of the Lord Ruler, a man named [[Sazed]] took up both of the planet's [[ShardsShard]]s and [[Final Ascension|Ascended]]. Sazed tried undoing most of the Lord Ruler's changes, setting the continents back in their original places and moving Scadrial back into its original orbit. This event was known to the Northern Scadrians as the [[Catacendre]].
 
For reasons unknown, moving the planet to its original orbit caused the Southern continent to freeze, leading to the deaths of many Southern Scadrians. This unnatural freezing did not happen in the north. The Southern peoples call this event the '''Ice Death'''.{{book ref|mb6|22}}
