The Kandra, [[VenDell]], of the sixth generation, had successfully ensnared Marasi and Wayne in his appeal for assistance, but Wax knew that VenDell had done so simply as another way to entangle him into the affair, while ignoring his earlier refusal. Wax's group immediately made preparations to go to New Seran and Steris joins the group and they board the train. On the train Wax and Steris engage in conversation where Wax finds out about the political situation in New Seran and that he is partially responsible for it.{{book ref|mb6|5}} The train that Wax and his group is riding on gets robbed, Wax and the others fight back.
