He is the second son of [[Dalinar]], and the younger brother of [[Adolin]]. Renarin is a proper, solemn young man although many people find his presence to be disturbing due to his tendency to pause when asked questions. He wears spectacles. In [[The Way of Kings]], he is 19 years old. The kings [[Wit]] also seems to have a particular interest in Renarin and is generally much more good-natured and polite to him than to other lighteyes.

Renarin has a weakness in his blood that causes episodes of shaking unpredictably. Because of this, he has little practice with using a weapon, and no battle experience, however it has been thought that if he could obtain a set of [[Shardplate]] he may be able to overcome his blood-weakness and be able to learn to fight effectively. Dalinar has promised to give Renarin his Shardplate when he is proclaimed Highprince of War.
