He was the second son of [[Dalinar]], and the younger brother of [[Adolin]]. Renarin was a proper, solemn young man although many people found his presence to be disturbing due to his tendency to pause when asked questions. He wore spectacles.{{ref|b|twok|c|12}} The [[Wit|King's Wit]] seemed to have a particular interest in Renarin and was generally much more good-natured and polite to him than to other lighteyes.
Renarin had a weakness in his blood that caused episodes of shaking unpredictably. Because of this, he had little practice with using a weapon, and no battle experience, however it was thought that if he obtained a set of [[Shardplate]] he may be able to overcome his blood-weakness and learn to fight effectively.{{ref|b|twok|c|18}} Dalinar promised to give Renarin his Shardplate after being proclaimed Highprince of War.{{ref|b|twok|c|69}} He was 'slightly' [[wikipedia:Autism spectrum|autistic]].
