;Plot Summary
Wax ascends the tower, which has a steel spiral staircase up the center. He uses grenades and his oversized guns as well as increasing amounts of shrapnel to deal with the Set's soldiers, though he does take some damage to one arm. While he at times embraces being Harmony's sword, as he nears the top he asks that this never be required of him again, angered that Harmony could ask him to deal death and destruction when He has no understanding what it means to do it. Though not connected directly to Harmony, he sees a memory of the [[Battle of Luthadel]]; of Harmony having fought at a city wall surrounded by death. Wayne catches up to him, and they see another cluster of guards, but Wayne points out they are not "into it". They are not free of incidental metals, and are not hungry for a challenge.

=== Chapter 71 ===
Harmony informs Wayne that the vial contains a small bit of lerasium, created by Wax's experiments with splitting harmonium. As Wayne goes down to the hold where the bomb is, Harmony tells him that he's the only person in the world who can stop the bomb, and that he's the best there is. Wayne asks if stopping the bomb will earn him forgiveness, and Harmony tells him that he doesn't need forgiveness anymore. Wayne asks for a hat, and Harmony gives Wayne his own.
At Harmony's command, Wayne creates a perfect speed bubble. He encloses all three barrel devices, but excludes the device that coordinates the bombs' explosions. He burns duralumin and bendalloy at the same time, compressing time immensely within the bubble. One by one, he fills all three barrels with water and Pushes them outside the bubble, detonating the ettmetal inside. The bubble drops, and Wayne is consumed by the explosion.

;Plot Summary
:''Two years after detonation''
Wax and Steris stand before the recently-completed bronze statue of Wayne, made to commemorate him. Marasi arrives, and Wax shows her a desiccated frog, which had been snuck into his coat pocket per instructions in Wayne's will. Marasi talks about her upcoming trip to the Malwish Consortium to act as an ambassador, and Wax figures out that she's planning to eventually run for governor. Steris reveals that she helped Marasi with the planning. Marasi explains that she couldn't be content as a constable, because she wants to be able to actually change things for the better. Marsh shows up, and Marasi asks him if Wayne is really gone. Marsh says he didn't see Wayne pass on personally, but confirms that he is indeed gone. He gives a note to Wax, then leaves. The note is from Harmony, apologizing for interfering in Wax's life and promising to never do so again.
