'''Kwaan''' is a [[Worldbringer]] of [[Terris]] during the [[Classical Scadrial|classical era]] of [[Scadrial]]. He was the first man to discover Alendi and bring attention to him as the [[Hero of Ages]]. Kwaan later came to regret his decision and attempted to sabotage Alendi's success.

Kwaan was born a Feruchemist during the [[Classical Scadrial|Classical Era]] of Scadrial and as a man became a [[Worldbringer]], a [[Terris]] scholar and religious leader. The man preferred his studies in the great library located in the city of [[Khlennium]], often choosing eccentric questions to answer.{{book ref|mb1|19}} While studying whether or not trees were capable of thought, Kwaan happened to meet a young man named Alendi. Kwaan befriended Alendi, and employed him as an assistant during Alendi's first few months in the city.{{epigraph ref|mb2|11}}

After several years of friendship Kwaan began to notice certain characteristics about Alendi that cause him to wonder if the Alendi might be the [[Hero of Ages]],{{epigraph ref|mb2|12}} a prophesied Terris savior.{{cite}} He began studying the lore of the Anticipation more closely and connecting specific signs of the Hero to the man until he eventually became convinced.{{epigraph ref|mb2|13}} He presented his findings to the Conclave of Worldbringers and was scorned by them. They disbelieved that he had found the Hero,{{epigraph ref|mb2|13}} but Kwaan was determined to prove them wrong.{{epigraph ref|mb2|14}} Kwaan demanded that Alendi allow him to follow along on his journeys and Alendi agreed.{{epigraph ref|mb2|15}} Eventually Alendi discovered Kwaan's belief that he was the Hero and came to agree with that belief himself.{{epigraph ref|mb2|13}}

He was the first among them to proclaim [[Alendi]] as the [[Hero of Ages]] a figure foretold in Terris prophecy. However, his [[Wikipedia: eidetic memory| eidetic memory]] allowed him to remember the prophecy without resorting to his copperminds, which could be manipulated by Ruin.  He began to notice discrepancies between the two versions caused by the meddling hand of [[Ruin]]. He realized that releasing the power at the Well of Ascension would allow Ruin to be free once more so he sent his nephew [[Rashek]] to prevent this from occurring.

He left a metal [[Kwaan's inscription|inscription]] in the [[Conventical of Seran]] describing his discoveries which were later found and copied by [[Sazed]].{{epigraph ref|mb2|part=|text=''The Well of Ascension'' epigraphs}}

By the time that Alendi journeyed to the Well, Kwaan had gone into hiding to protect himself from Alendi's retribution. After Rashek successfully murdered Alendi and took the power at the Well for himself, he spoke into Kwaan's mind as he did to his friends, the other packmen.{{wob ref|date=2008-10-15||Hero of Ages Q&A - Time Waster's Guide}} Grateful for Kwaan's aid in taking the power, he offered Kwaan and the others a choice, to give up their Feruchemy, which Rashek now believed to be dangerous, and become the first kandra. Kwaan alone refused the offer, believing it to be a betrayal of who the Terris were as a people. In his anger Rashek attempted to destroy Kwaan for his insolence, but as he held the power of [[Preservation]] he was unable to do so and Kwaan remained a human. He spent his last few months in hiding, recording his final account in a steel plate before Rashek managed to track Kwaan down and kill him.

=== Legacy ===
After his murder, Kwaan was largely forgotten in the centuries of the Final Empire. His final account pounded into the Steel Plate was kept by the [[Inquisitors]] in the [[Conventical of Seran]]. Memory of Kwaan resurfaced when Alendi's logbook was recovered from [[Kredik Shaw]], but he was still a largely mysterious figure until [[Sazed]] happened upon his account while exploring the Conventical with Marsh. Sazed made a rubbing of these words in order to record them, but they were later twisted by Ruin in an attempt to manipulate Vin into freeing him. Sazed eventually came to realize that Kwaan's words had been altered, but by then he was too late to prevent Ruin's escape.
