Fob is one of Denth and Tonk Fah’s many contacts in T'Telir. As a merchant, he has made a deal with the Hallandren government to clear land using Lifeless workers. He then rents the land to growers. As payment for the loan of lifeless workers, all of the food produced on Fob’s land becomes the property of the Returned gods during wartime. Denth contacts him in an effort to convince him to harvest his lands early, before war breaks out. If he does so, Fob will make a nice profit and Hallandren will have one less source of food should they go to war. However, harvesting early would only serve his competition should Idiran and Hallandren relations remain peaceful. Fob does not immediately believe Denth’s claim that war is inevitable, however after seeing proof of Vivenna’s Royal Locks, he promises to consider Denth's proposal.

Fob owned forested land in Hallandren. He made a deal with the Hallandren government to borrow Lifeless workers to clear his land so that he could rent it out to farmers. As payment for the loan of the Lifeless, all of the food produced on Fob's land would become the property of the Returned gods during wartime. He was one of Denth and Tonk Fah's many contacts in T'Telir; they had some history together and he knew that they were unscrupulous mercenaries.wb

Vivenna believes that war is inevitable and hopes this meeting will improve her homeland's chances of fighting back, but this is actually one of many plans Denth uses in an attempt to start a war between Idris and Hallandren. wb

Quotes
As part of his plan to sow chaos in the city during the Pahn Kahl rebellion, Denth hoped to convince Fob to harvest his lands early, thereby reducing the food stores available to Hallandren during a potential war with Idris. At a meeting in a local restaurant, Denth told Fob that war was inevitable, and that an early harvest would net him a nice profit and avoid potential losses should the crops on his land be commandeered by the government. Fob did not trust Denth and was not swayed by his logic, countering that Hallandren and Idris always seemed to be on the brink of war and that harvesting early would only serve to help his competition if the two countries remained peaceful. However, Vivenna revealed her identity by displaying her Royal Locks, shocking Fob and adding credibility to Denth's position. He then promised to consider Denth's proposal.wb
