The Manywar was a global conflict on Nalthis that involved the nations of Hanald (the original name of Hallandren), Kuth, Huth, Pahn Kahl, Tedradel, and Gys. It occurred about three hundred years before the events of Warbreaker.

The Tears of Edgli had made Hanald an economic powerhouse. The dyes that they produced were vibrant and prized throughout Nalthis. However, the Tears could only grow in Hanald's climate. Other nations were jealous and wished to take control of Hanald so they could profit from the dyes.

However, one of the Five Scholars, Shashara, was spurred by Yesteel's development of ichor-alcohol into making a new discovery. She invented a Command that allowed for the creation of a Lifeless with a single Breath. Together these discoveries allowed rulers to effectively double the size of their armies; along with the fact that the new troops did not eat, take pay, or feel pain and fear. Larger standing armies could be created. This made the Manywar the first conflict on Nalthis to utilize Lifeless in great numbers. Powerful Awakeners and siege engines such as ropes Awakened to throw boulders would also be used in combat. The power disparity between those with the new Lifeless Command and those without was another cause of the Manywar.

Though not from Alethkar, Kalak appears Alethi. He's a short man, with thinning, wispy hair, a round face, and a small nose. When he wishes to appear serious, he puts on a set of violet robes; ordinarily, however, he dresses more casually. Vorin artwork tends to present him as a young man, though in person, he looks more like a city administrator.

Personality
New Commands were also being discovered rapidly, a golden age of Awakening took place, due in part to the Five Scholars. These new discoveries helped further learning and knowledge, but they also provided dangerous weapons. The House of Idris, ruling family of Hanald, were particularly interested in Awakening, and gained powerful Awakeners and Lifeless.

Back in the early Desolations, he was known for being decisive and authoritative, and he would often be approached whenever problems appeared for counsel. However, as Desolations wore him down, he became terrified of dying and returning to Braize to be tortured. By Aharietiam, he has vivid, painful memories of the torture that sometimes cause him to briefly lose his grip on reality. When given the choice to abandon the Oathpact, he's aware of and terrified of the consequences. However, by this point his fear of torture far outweighs his sense of duty.

By the True Desolation, this develops into paranoid and erratic behavior. Kalak vacillates often, and finds making even the simplest decisions difficult. He often follows what the crowd wants instead of his own internal moral compass. He seems to have trouble focusing, or at least paying attention to time, even when others are waiting for him. He believes humans are dangerous; he's unsettled by their presence, with Bondsmiths, and people associated with them, seeming to provoke the strongest reaction. A visit into a human city makes him jittery to the point where he runs away at the sight of another person. It's likely that he prefers to live in Lasting Integrity for this reason. Even there, however, unexpected commotion can quickly make him panic. In this state, he is near-insensate, crying, covering his ears and curling on the floor. He recovers extremely quickly, though, and with no outward sign that he's been disturbed.

Words of Radiance Spoilers
Hey all. Words of Radiance is out in two days, and while we're all pretty psyched about that, I just wanted to take a second to remind everyone about out spoiler policy, as it seems a number of people have received their copy early. Until the fourth, there will be absolutely no Words of Radiance spoilers permitted on the wiki beyond what has been revealed in pre-release chapters and readings. I will personally be keeping a close eye on the wiki for any spoilers and terminating them with extreme prejudice. :P On the fourth, spoilers will be allowed on the wiki, but they should all be marked with a spoiler tag, so as to not ruin the book for anyone. Six months or so after the book is out, these tags will be removed. Thanks for your patience and understanding everyone, and happy reading! --Windrunner (talk) 23:16, 2 March 2014 (UTC)

To Do
Would you like to help the Coppermind to get better? There's plenty of room for improvement, but where to start?

Book Pages
Many pages on book pages themselves could use serious expansion. The Mistborn trilogy's book articles are serious stubs, as well as Warbreaker and Elantris. When editing book pages, a couple sections you may want to consider:

*Main characters

*Plot Summary

*Magic

Avoid pure lists, give each of these sections some meat! :)

On these articles, it'd also be appropriate to include some information about Brandon's process of writing the books (similar to many Wikipedia articles on movies having a "Production" section), if you know some fun factoids.

Main Characters
Of character articles, there are some pretty serious holes. Think about expanding main characters, as those should probably be the most extensive of all character articles. The Stormlight Archive main characters are okay, but think about editing Vivenna or Sarene. In edition, Mistborn characters like Kelsier, Vin, Elend, and Sazed could use some section breaks for clarity.

References
If you are editing for the first time, don't worry too much about adding citations for every fact--content always comes first. That said, if you're one of those people who stares at the Interview Database a lot, you might want to help adding citations to the many articles in need of citations.

General Tasks
Check out articles requiring urgent attention, articles that should be a top priority in expanding or fixing.

There are a great deal of wanted pages--that is, those wiki links that are in red instead of blue, which represent articles that don't exist. Check out the page of all wanted articles, or perhaps more usefully, there's a big list of wanted articles sorted by series in Project: Articles to be written (lots of Stormlight ones there, if you know a lot of Stormlight).

And, if you want to enter the realm of torment, you could always expand one of many, many stubs.

Official depiction of Kalak.

I am a blur. A smear on the page. A gaunt stretch of ink, made all the more insubstantial with each passing day.

—Kalak

Kalak, also known as Kelek'Elin in Vorinism, is one of the ten Heralds of the Almighty on Roshar, and the patron of the Order of Willshapers. Like all Heralds but Taln, he abandoned the Oathpact at Aharietiam. Currently, he lives in the honorspren city of Lasting Integrity, acting as their High Judge. He also leads the Sons of Honor under the name Restares.

Appearance

Though not from Alethkar, Kalak appears Alethi. He's a short man, with thinning, wispy hair, a round face, and a small nose. When he wishes to appear serious, he puts on a set of violet robes; ordinarily, however, he dresses more casually. Vorin artwork tends to present him as a young man, though in person, he looks more like a city administrator.

Personality

They deserve better than you, son. They deserve better than me. I could never judge them for refusing to bond men. How could I?

—Kalak
