The empire in Mistborn: The Final Empire which lasted the entirety of the Lord Ruler's life; a thousand years. After the death of the Lord Ruler, Elend's empire, which replaced the Final Empire, is known as The New Empire.

The Final Empire is split into several Dominances; The Central Dominance, The Northern Dominance, The Western Dominance, The Eastern Dominance, The Southern Dominance, The Crescent Dominance, The Farmost Dominance, The Southern Islands, The Remote Dominance and The Terris Dominance.

The lands surrounding the Central Dominance, which holds the capital, Luthadel, contain the seven Ashmounts; Tyrian, Zerinah, Faleast, Doriel, Morag, Kalling and Torinost. These seven mountains spew ash into Scadrial's atmosphere, cooling the world down, as Rashek moved it too close to it's sun after gaining Preservation's power at The Well of Ascension.

The Lord Ruler suppressed most technological advances, killing everyone who discovered gunpowder and the knowledge associated with it, but did allow some advances such as the implementation of canneries, allowing for the easy storage of food.

Canals are the easiest method of transportation for goods, as the ash becomes quite deep away from civilization, so water transportation is the main method used by merchants.
