Hoid initially met Kelsier in the disguise of an informant, so at first their relationship was of little import during Kelsier's life. Hoid was frustrated that Kelsier had destroyed the perpendicularity at the Pits of Hathsin, making his life harder. Their relationship became more relevant when Hoid encountered the Shadow of Kelsier trapped in the Well of Ascension. This meeting was the start of history of antagonism between the two men. Hoid and Kelsier have contrasting personalities and both have strong egos, meaning they often find themselves at odds.
