• 12: Elend had spent the ball reading on a secluded balcony over looking the ballroom, but had left to get a cup of wine. When he returned, a "pretty girl" had taken his place. He engaged her in conversation, lamenting that that spot had the best lighting for reading. When she apologised, he said there was enough room for two people if she moved over a little, and they shared the balcony for a time.

Elend resumed his reading (Trials of Monument, by Dilisteni), before Vin drew him into conversation. He then noted that her Terrisman was looking for her downstairs, pointing out that Sazed was searching for her on the ground floor. Vin quickly left, and he returned to his book. However, he closed the book and watched her as she left.
