The '''Unmade''' are a group of nine{{book ref|sa3|1}} ancient and twisted [[spren]]{{book ref|sa3|62}} on [[Roshar]] comprised of [[Splinter]]s of [[Odium]].{{wob ref|1672}} They are regarded as minions of Odium,{{book ref|sa3|1}} but not all of them continue to do his bidding.{{book ref|sa4|i|2}}{{book ref|sa4|112}} While they are traditionally depicted as personifications of destruction or forces, some of them are cognizant individuals.{{epigraph ref|sa1|45}}{{epigraph ref|sa3|91}} Each Unmade is endowed with vast and terrible powers,{{epigraph ref|sa3|89}} although the intelligence of the Unmade varyvaries drastically.

In creating Unmade, Odium trapped them in a halfway existence, many not fully belonging to the Physical or Cognitive Realms. Sja-anat experiences a shadowy version of both Shadesmar and the Physical Realm at the same time, feeling the distance dilation between the two dilate as she moves.{{book ref|sa4|i|2}}

Unmade are [[Investiture|Invested]] enough that they have been able to push through [[Urithiru]]'s [[suppression fabrial|suppression]] effect, depending on the circumstances.{{book ref|sa4|14}}{{book ref|sa4|40}}{{book ref|sa4|49}} Although not as Invested as the Stormfather or Nightblood, they are still more Invested than the Vessel of a Shard (though obviously not the Shard itself).{{wob ref|16311}}

The origin of the Unmade is uncertain, but they are believed to have come into existence before the start of human civilization on Roshar.{{book ref|sa3|77}} Each would have been considered to be native to Roshar.{{wob ref|15875}} They have been implied to have once been something else before being made into the Unmade,{{book ref|sa3|84}}{{book ref|sa3|32}} but for now there is no indication what they once were. About five generations before [[Lunamor]]'s time, his great-great-great-grandfather encountered one of the Unmade in the Horneater Peaks. It seems unlikely that it was Moelach, as it only moved to the Peaks around the time of the Everstorm.{{book ref|sa3|38}}
