Though his blade didn't vanish when he collapsed this is not an evidence that he might have died. It's indisputable that Taln is one of the Heralds and thus it's known from the Prelude that the Herald's Honorblades vanish if their wielder died (in contrary to Shardblades that stay when the Shardbearer dies).{{ref|b|sa1|prelude|"If their masters had died, those Blades would have vanished."}}
Also, Brandon has said Talenel will be a viewpoint character in later books{{ref|17s|637|post|11092|Stormlight Archive Main Characters}}, and this implies that Taln didn't die when he slumped in the Epilogue of The Way of Kings.{{ref|?|697|14|Just because he fell doesn't mean he's dead.}}
