HeTaff is in a hallway with three other servants when they are attacked by [[Vasher]] as he infiltrates the palace.{{book ref|wb|26}} Taff is immediately tied up with an [[Awakening|Awakened]] rope.{{book ref|wb|26}} [[Rariv]] and another servant run for help, while; [[Lolan]] isbecomes distracted by [[Nightblood]] and is knocked unconscious by Vasher.{{book ref|wb|26}} When help arrives, the rope binding Taff is no longer Awakened, but he has been stabbed and killed,.{{book andref|wb|26}} afterAfter interviewing the witnesses, [[Lightsong]] deduces that the initial assailant (Vasher) was not the murderer.{{book ref|wb|26}} The killer was [[Denth]], who was tailing Vasher.{{annotation ref|book=wb|chapter=26}} Taff was presumably killed because he was the only person who would have been able to identify Denth.{{book ref|wb|26}}
