The gemstones camecome in three denominations; chips, marks and broams. There wereare five chips to a mark, and four marks to a broam.{{ref|17s|180|post|18839|Peter says five chips per mark, four marks per broam}} Chips barely have any glow at all, since they are just a sliver of gem, but marks glow almost as bright as a candle.{{ref|b|twok|c|3}} Only nine of the ten Polestones are used in the spheres,{{ref|b|twok|p|140}} but it is as of yet unknown whether smokestones or heliodor are the gem not used, or the reason for the tenth gem's absence. If left outside during a [[highstorm]], spheres would beare infused with [[Stormlight]]. Over time, all of the Stormlight escapedwill escape leaving itthe sphere dun, so it ceases to glow.{{ref|b|twok|p|617}} Dun spheres are Sinceworth the glowsame ofas spheresinfused ones{{ref|b|twok|p|261}} but since their glow is what proves that they aren't counterfeit, people are often suspicious of those spending dun spheres.
