(Minor content edit. Additionally, removed the part about Splinters gaining sapience, as the divine Breath certainly does not have that property. I do understand what you were trying to get to there, though.)

Splinter
BrandonIt hasis notunknown told uswhat the completeexact definition of a Splinter is, but itthe term seems to refersrefer to a specific kind of fragment of a Shard's power. One distinguishing factor, of a Splinter seemsis tothat becomethey sapientoften whenhave itan bondsintent, withseparate afrom humantheir Shards'.

The divine Breath that Returned hold (a Splinter of Endowment) and the Aon within a Seon (a Splinter of Devotion) are the only confirmed Splinters,. butSplinters a Seon is not considered a Splinter. Theyalso appear in The Way of Kings and Elantris as well, but not Mistborn.?

It is not clear how Splinters are formed, though it appears a Shard must actively create one. Endowment seems to be able to form them at will for Returned. Odium traveled to Sel and Splintered Devotion and Dominion.a Since Odium killed Tanavast, the holder of Honor, it has been theorized that Honor is Splintered as well.
