Rial's past is unknown, including the reason that he is part of a bridge crew. No other characters published thus far share his accent.
Rial is not mentioned during the [[War of Reckoning]]. Some time after the [[Battle of Narak]], Rial and the rest of Bridge Thirteen are assigned to be bodyguards for the leadership in [[Urithiru]] after the members of [[Bridge Four]] become [[Kaladin]]'s [[squire]]s.{{book ref|sa3|4}} He quickly becomes friendly with Dalinar and at one point spikes his canteen with alcohol.{{book ref|sa3|58}} He guards Dalinar on the first trip to [[Thaylen City]] and is present during Dalinar's duel with [[Kdralk]].{{book ref|sa3|59}} He later offers Dalinar some alcohol just prior to him being branded a heretic by the [[curates]] of the [[Holy Enclave]].{{book ref|sa3|100}}
