The [[Artifabrian]] [[Longshadow]] designed a painrial that was quite large, about the size of a fist,{{ref|b|twok|c|22}} and had a set of clawlikeclaw-like legs which were wrapped around the pained area and locked in place with a clip.{{ref|b|twok|c|60}} That particular painrial was powered by a ruby and made of polished brass.{{ref|b|twok|c|22}} [[Navani Kholin]] later refined its design.{{ref|b|twok|c|60}} She hoped to eventually to refine the design to be less bulky. Navani saw it being used by surgeons so they could operate without fear of causing pain to their patients. While it did not heal the wounds, Navani hoped that the painrial was a step in the right direction.
