[[Kelsier]] meets Mennis on the Tresting plantation the night that he kills [[Themos Tresting]] and frees the [[skaa]] there.{{book ref|mb1|prologue}} Later on, after the skaa rebellion's army gets destroyed, Kelsier finds Mennis keeping a group of two thousand skaa soldiers that refused to go fight in the battle that caused the demise of the rest of the army.{{book ref|mb1|25}}
