Each sea is made up of spores of a different colour, due to being associated with a different core Aether. Known seas include the Rose Sea,{{book ref\|tress\|10}} Emerald Sea,{{book ref\|tress\|10}} Sapphire Sea,{{book ref\|tress\|23}} Crimson Sea,{{book ref\|tress\|5}} Midnight Sea,{{book ref\|tress\|5}} and Sunlight Sea. {{book ref\|tress\|40}} Several of these are inhabited, with people and civilizations forming of the various islands splitting the spores. But not all seas are inhabited, with the Crimson and Midnight Seas, due to their dangerous nature, are uninhabited outside of a few notable exceptions.
