*Kaladin was originally named Merin. One of the reasons for the name change was that Merin sounded too much like [[Wikipedia: Perrin Aybara|Perrin]].{{qa ref|535|8}} Another was it sounded too much like a female name. Brandon also felt that the character had changed so much that he couldn't think of him as Merin anymore.{{qa ref|692|2}}
