As Kaladin mulledmulls over the conversation, Lirin arrivedarrives with the news that the new citylord hadhas arrived. The family mademakes their way to the town square, and metmeeting up with Tien there. Brightlord [[Roshone]] arrivedarrives in his carriage and barely acknowledgedacknowledges the crowd waiting in the town square. When Lirin triedtries to welcome him to town, he respondedresponds by sayingblaming harshlyLirin itfor wasbeing Lirin'sthe faultreason he ended up in that townHearthstone. When Kaladin, protestedprotesting that he was notisn't a servant, Rillirloses continuedan toargument humiliatewith himRillir withand hisis wordshumiliated. As Lirin and Kaladin leftleave the mansion, Kaladin admittedadmits to his father that he had been considering joining the army; but hehas said he had decidedresolved to become a surgeon insteadso sothat he would have the education to stand up to the lighteyes. During the conversation, Kaladin realizedrealizes Lirin had indeed stolen the spheres from Wistiow. Kaladin resolvedresolves to use the spheres for his training, but stated he would pay them back to Laral one day. LirinAs andcitylord, KaladinRoshone werewas exemptbarred from conscription,placing becauseLirin underor [[Vorin]]Kaladin law,on professionsthe whoconscription servedlist vitalbecause functionsthey inserved townsa werevital protectedfunction fromto itthe town.
