Prior to the the Kholin assault on the [[Rift]] in {{Rosharan date|1163}}, [[Tanalan]] tricked [[Dalinar]] into thinking that [[Torol Sadeas]] had betrayed him and planned to attack him using the guise of a caravan. Dalinar ordered Horinar to gather a company of a hundred elites, those who were fastest, to march with Dalinar to investigate the caravan.{{book ref|sa3|71}} However, Tanalan sprung a trap and caused a landslide to fall on Dalinar, killing many of his men.{{book ref|sa3|75}} It is not known if Horinar was among those killed.
