Stormlight is a gaseous form of [[Investiture]] associated with Honor. It is suspected that he was in some way responsible for the [[Oathpact]] that bind his [[Herald]]s to fight the [[Voidbringers]]. Sometime after the event referred to as the [[Last Desolation]], he was [[Splinter]]ed by [[Odium]].{{wob ref|9810}} However, before his death, Honor left behind a "journal" of sorts—a series of visions—to warn of what he fears to come, the True Desolation.{{wob ref|9973}}

Surgebinding is a magic system derived from both Honor and [[Cultivation]].{{wob ref|1640}} To utilize it, a person must bond a higher spren, which allows them to inhale Stormlight and use it to control [[Surge]]s, a set of ten fundamental forces, although a single spren bond allows access to only two of them.{{wob ref|7663}} Some bonds favor Honor, and others Cultivation, although the proportion, and whether there are Surges "purely" of one or the other, is still under speculation.{{wob ref|10649}}

The most important and common is that of warrior, though the skills range from cooking to music to crafting and various others, warriors are needed the most to fight the forces of [[Damnation]]. The usefulness of some of the skills during a battle in the spiritual realm is called into question by a few characters, for instance, being a great cook for an army who will not need to eat, seems a little useless.

The Almighty's relationship to the [[highstorm]]s is unclear. The name [[Stormfather]] is used as the name for the deity that controls, or creates the highstorms. The Shard of Honor was created, like all others, at the [[Shattering]] of [[Adonalsium]], and picked up by [[Tanavast]]. Honor's death, however, was a protracted event.{{wob ref|8144}} Before passing away fully, Honor took some measures to help Rosharans in the future. Chief among them was leaving behind a series of visions to warn of the possibility of the [[True Desolation]], and to leave behind some information that might be helpful.{{book ref|sa1|75}} He prepared [[Stormfather]] to be his inheritor, and gave him the task of choosing the possible recipients of the visions.{{book ref|sa2|89}} At the very end of his existence, Tanavast was still capable of communicating with humans, but by then he was raving and no longer supported the Knights Radiant.{{book ref|sa3|113}}
