A general purpose external link footnote can be created by using the syntax <nowiki>{{ref\|text=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandon_Sanderson}}</nowiki> which will produce a footnote{{ref\|text=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandon_Sanderson}} ~~which will~~ link to the references section at the bottom of the article, inserting whatever comes after the "text=" tag. In this example, the text is a hyperlink, but any text can be inserted. See [[Help:Cite]] for additional templates for linking to specific types of resources, such as Brandon's tweets.
