Ettmetal can produce a particular Allomantic power after physical contact with an Allomancer using that power.{{book ref\|mb6\|17}} This action of releasing Allomantic power slowly uses up the ettmetal{{book ref\|mb6\|22}}, similar to how other metals are burned up by an Allomancer. Unlike most other metals except [[aluminum]], ettmetal's Allomantic effect works without being ingested. It appears to have the opposite effect to aluminum when it comes to Allomantic effects, as aluminum negates them while ettmetal mimics them. Harmonium is the condensed elemental form of [[Harmony]]'s power. Alloying [[atium]] and [[lerasium]] will not produce harmonium. While difficult, it is possible to obtain atium and lerasium from harmonium, but not through mechanical means.{{wob ref\|12145}} Storing too much harmonium in one place supposedly can lead to the production of a perpendicularity, due to the large concentration of Investiture. This combination of opposite Intents somehow affects the chemical properties of the metal, making it extremely reactive. Combinations of the two Shard's powers have been known to exist even from the beginning (e.g. the Metallic Art of Feruchemy), so it might be possible that ettmetal reserves existed before Sazed took up the Shards. === Reaction to Trellium === If ettmetal did exist prior to Harmony, its ability to mimic the effects of the Metallic Arts could be the key to how [[Rashek]] kept the South Scadrians alive under the scorching heat of the Scadrial's sun without genetic modifications{{qa ref\|727\|79\|Rashek and the Southern Scadrians\|date=October 2008}}, but this theory would only work if ettmetal can mimic the Feruchemical storage of [[Brass#Feruchemical_Use\|heat]], and this is currently unknown. When harmonium has electric currents moving passing through it the metal softens and can be split in half.{{book ref\|mb7\|15}} If, during this process, [[trellium]] is inserted between the two pieces a violent reaction occurs as the matter of both metals are converted into pure energy.
