Frillbloom leaves are fanlike fronds that wave gently in the air.{{book ref|sa2|9}} When startled, they fold in on themselves like a hand folding into a fist.{{book ref|sa2|12}}
Colors vary between different frillbloom species, and include yellow, orange, red, and violet.{{book ref|sa1|55}}{{book ref|sa1|49}}{{book ref|sa2|69}} In some varieties, the fronds are veined.{{book ref|sa2|71}} Other varieties have spines on the tips of the leaves.{{book ref|sa2|49}}
