During the [[Era of Solitude]], no one seemed to know exactly what the Dawnshards were or what they looked like.{{epigraph ref|sa1|36}} They have their root in mythology where they are reputed to be valuable but extraordinarily dangerous.{{book ref|sa1|29}} Talk about them was once common among those who recorded the early mythologies of Roshar, but they have since fallen out of common discussion.{{epigraph ref|sa1|36}} One of the only references to the Dawnshards was the''The Poem of Ista'', which referenced a Dawnshard said to be able to bind both Voidish and mortal creatures,{{book ref|sa1|29}} but what exactly that entails is unknown. Although the Dawnshards are not the same thing as [[Honorblade]]s, they are often conflated in modern times by people unfamiliar with mythology.{{book ref|dawnshard|19}}
