These birds have gained magical powers on account of consuming worms native to the islands while very young. In particular, the worms feed off the fruits fallen from the [[Patji's Finger]]s that grow next to [[Patji's Eye]].{{book ref|sixth}} Every Aviar comes to Patji's Eye when they are young to gain their talent. Aviar birds raised outside the [[Pantheon]] usually do not develop these unique powers. [[Sixth of the Dusk (character)|Sixth of the Dusk]] raised a non-native bird on the isles, [[Sak]], and found that she also developed powers.
