Wax drops in on Kelsina talking to his uncle through a telegraph for voices, shortly after a Terris steward disarms him and shoots Kelesina, implicating Wax in the murder. With the help of MeLaan Wax fights off the security of the Mansion and escape the mansion. {{book ref|mb6|16}} After escaping Wax decides to leave New Seran and Head towards the building project to the northeast instead of heading home and trying to lessen the ramifications of the murder he was implicated in.{{book ref|mb6|17}}
 
Wax rides toward the construction site in a stagecoach and on the way to the site he and Marasi discover how the cube-like device that they recovered on the train operates.{{book ref|mb6|17}} At the construction site, Wax, MeLaan, and Marasi infiltrate the perimeter with the help of Wayne, where he realizes that the construction is a giant boat and decides to infiltrate it to find his sister. Wax proceeds to explore the ship with Wayne and after some time discovers the chamber where his sister is being held. Taking advantage of a distraction created by Wayne, Wax manages to get into the room where Telsin was being held..{{book ref|mb6|18}}.{{book ref|mb6|19}} After rescuing Telsin, Wax, Wayne, and Telsin escape the ship in a smaller ship with the help of a crew member of the ship. Once again Wax decides to go after the Bands of mourning rather than return to Elendel.{{book ref|mb6|21}}
