Wax rides toward the construction site in a stagecoach and on the way to the site he and Marasi discover how the cube-like device that they recovered on the train operates.{{book ref|mb6|17}} At the construction site, Wax, MeLaan, and Marasi infiltrate the perimeter with the help of Wayne, where he realizes that the construction is a giant boat and decides to infiltrate it to find his sister. Wax proceeds to explore the ship with Wayne and after some time discovers the chamber where his sister is being held. Taking advantage of a distraction created by Wayne, Wax manages to get into the room where Telsin was being held..{{book ref|mb6|18}}.{{book ref|mb6|19}} After rescuing Telsin, Wax, Wayne, and Telsin escape the ship in a smaller ship with the help of a crew member of the ship. Once again Wax decides to go after the Bands of mourning rather than return to Elendel.{{book ref|mb6|21}}
 
Arriving at the temple where the Bands of Mourning are supposedly being kept before Suit's henchmen, Wax ventures inside alongside the rest of his group. Inside the temple Wax proceeds with caution after seeing the corpses of Hunters that came before him. With the help of MeLaan and Mr. Suit Wax manages to get into the room where the Bands were being kept only to be betrayed by Telsin and Mr. Suit, Wax gets shot 3 times and dropped down a pit.{{book ref|mb6|26}} After another confrontation with Mr. Suit Wax dies {{book ref|mb6|27}}and has a conversation with Harmony where he is eventually offered a choice between freedom and duty, Wax chooses duty and is revived by tapping the power in the Bands of Mourning, using the powers he heals and frees himself and then goes after Mr. Suit and Telsin. {{book ref|mb6|28}} Wax intercepts Suit as he tries to escape, after a brief conversation they fight with Wax coming out as the winner.{{book ref|mb6|29}} {{book ref|mb6|30}}Wax and his group take the southerner[[Southern Scadrian]]'s ship back to Elendel where he hands over the Band of Mourning to Kandra for safe keeping. Wax then asks Steris to marry him. {{book ref|mb6|31}} While on his honeymoon with Steris, Wax is woken up by an explosion and sees the coin that was given to him at the party, recognizing the structure of the coin Wax taps the investiture in the coin and then taps the coppermind, showing him a memory.{{book ref|mb6|epilogue}}
