The Gang they appears to be unaware of the details of their mission. First, they attack the entire train, not just Wax's car.{{book ref|mb6|7}} Second, they were surprised at Wax's presence on the train, given their lack of anti-allomancer battle tactics.{{book ref|mb6|9}} Additionally, they are inexperienced at robbing trains, according to Wax. Instead of forcing the train to stop in order to board, they attack on horseback.{{book ref|mb6|7}}
The gang's resources are substantial. They use a chemical weapon in order to remove resistance from the train's bank car, and are equipped with what appear to be gas masks in order to protect themselves.
The Gang is left decimated by this attack. Despite successfully escaping with their ill-gotten gains, [[Matieu|Constable Matieu]] claims that half of the attackers were killed or captured by Wax.{{book ref|mb6|9}}
