Tasked with finding a way to seek information on the [[Cult of Moments]] and a way to access Kholinar's [[Oathgate]], Shallan, disguised as Veil, scrounges for information. During her exploration of the city, Shallan encounters an urchin named [[Grund]]. In exchange for information, Shallan trades food to the boy. Despite her charitable actions, Shallan unwittingly causes the death of Grund after the boy is attacked by group of thugs that had been stealing the food given to him. ~~When~~Following the murder of the urchin, Shallan is scarred by the experience and left revisiting traumatic memories from her past. She soon comes to the conclusion that the actions she took to aid others only left things worse. As Shallan began to doubt her actions taken to provide for the poor citizens in Kholinar, [[Wit]] arrived and comforted her. While talking, they discussed the meaning of power, eventually giving Shallan the advice she needed to infiltrate the Cult of Moments. After this, he left her with the bill for the food he ate, much to her displeasure.{{book ref\|sa3\|68}} In order to avoid being attacked by the deranged cultists, Shallan utilized the Oathgate to telport Azure, Adolin, Kaladin, and herself along with their spren. When they awakened, they found themselves in Shadesmar, which Azure grunted about due to her dislike for the strange realm.{{book ref\|sa3\|87}}{{expand}}
