At the end of Words of Radiance, many of the bridgemen who worked under Kaladin were suddenly able to breathe Stormlight and heal.{{book ref|sa2|87}} This occurred after Kaladin swore the third oath. This is also similar to what is seen in [[Dalinar]]'s vision, when a [[Knight Radiant]] and his squad are hunting the [[Purelake]] for an [[Unmade]] before a voidspren protector forms a [[thunderclast]] from the bedrock of the lake.{{book ref|sa2|4}} Later, Kaladin trains the bridgemen in sucking in Stormlight and using Lashings. However, their abilities are only present when Kaladin is nearby. Sigzil noted that they could use Stormlight effectively within 30 miles of Kaladin, and their maximum distance was 50 miles. The Windrunners' resonance was strength of squires{{wob ref|date=2014-03-22|6740|Words of Radiance Chicago signing}}, indicating that had Kaladin been of another order, he would not have been able to make all of Bridge Four his squires.
