Asha Jushu was fond of gambling, a vice he was driven to as a result of their father's brutal temper. He would steal his father's possessions and sell them to fund this habit.{{ref|b|twok|i|2}} Though this hid the fact later that his family was in financial crisis which he was covering by selling his fathers things. Shallan considers him a good man despite his habit and doesn't blame him for it.{{ref|b|sa1|c|29}}
