Background
In an attempt to unite the Highprinces and, end the warWar of Reckoning, and fulfill theVengeance Pact Highprince Dalinar Kholinl proposed a joint assault deep into the Shattered Plains. The armies of Aladar, Kholin, Roion, and Sebarial attackedleft the Narakwarcamps in order to find the Parshendi and defeat them. They left during the weepingWeeping, a period of four weeks with no Highstorm.

The Parshendi, meanwhile had discovered the Stormform, a new and powerful form, which most of them had taken. A few Parshendi refused, when they saw the effects that the Stormform had, and escaped Narak. The Parshendi, under the leadership of Eshonai then prepared to summon a storm, and kill the Alethi as they arrived.
The battle
The Parshendi had recently discovered Storm Form. Though they had a distinct manpower disadvantage, the form of power helped them put up a stiff resistance. Their strategy centered around defending a group of Parshedni singers in the rear, who were attempting to summon a storm. The Alethi armies eventually routed the Parshendi and halted the singing. However during the battle the Parshendi successfully summoned the Everstorm, a Highstorm which travels from west to east. At the same time the Stormfather summoned and unexpected Highstorm. Faced with destruction at the hands of the converging storms, the Alethi were able to escape via the Stormseat Oathgate to Urithiru.sa2 This was accomplished when Shallan found and activated the Oathgate on a perfectly round plateau at the very center of the Shattered Plains.
On the way to Narak, Shallan Davar revealed her abilities as a Lightweaver to Dalinar. When the Alethi arrives at Narak, they encounter Rlain who tells them that something has happened to the Parshendi, that they have been turned into monsters. Dalinar then tasks Shallan with finding the Oathgate to Urithiru, so that the Alethi army can escape if the battle against the Parshendi goes poorly.

The Alethi then attack Narak. The Parshendi are spread out on three different plateaus, and the Alethi split up, in order to attack all three groups at the same time. Armies led by highprince Roion, highprince Aladar, and Prince Adolin Kholin engage the Parshendi. Dalinar himself stays on a fourth plateau, commanding the battle.

The battleBattle
The battle is though for the Alethi, since the Parshendi Stormform makes them more powerful, and also allows them to blast lightning at their foes. After advice from Rlain, Dalinar commands the Alethi troops to kill the groups of group of singers in the Parshendi rear. Adolin, despite losing his mount, [[Sureblood], manages to accomplish this by ambushing the singers from behind. He then engages in a duel with Eshonai, which ends with them both falling down a chasm. Adolin is however rescued by the bridgemen Skar and Leyten, while Eshonai disappears. On Roins plateau, however, the Parshendi gain the upper hand, and manages to kill Teleb, one of the Kholin Shardbearers.

Meanwhile, Shallan suspects that a round plateau, which does not fit into the pattern of the Shattered Plains is where the Oathgate is located. Together with Prince Renarin Kholin and a team of soldiers and scholars, Shallan goes to the plateau, and discovers that it is the Oathgate. After a while, she manages to discover that a living Shardblade is required in order to work the gate.

As the battle continues Adolin encounters Szeth, who is sent by Taravangian to kill Dalinar. Adolin engages him in a fight. Meanwhile, Roions forces are losing, but Aladar manages to defeat the Parshendi on his plateau. This is to late, however, as the singing Parshendi has managed to summon the Everstorm. The Stormfather decides to summon an unexpected Highstorm, and the two storms comes from different directions, and are about to meet eachother on Narak.

Szeth and Adolin arrive at Dalinars position, and Szeth easily defeats Adolin, and then takes on Dalinar, who manages to hold him off for a while, before getting help by Roion and a group of soldiers. Szeth takes them down, and kills Roion, before being attacked by Dalinar, Adolin and a force of bridgemen. Despite the numbers, Szeth manages to lash Dalinar to the sky, which is supposed to kill him. However, Kaladin arrives, and saves Dalinar, before taking on Szeth. Meanwhile, Dalinar leads the retreat of the Alethi toward the Oathgate. The armies manages to escape before the storms clash. Kaladin and Szeth use Surgebinding to fight above the storms. Eventually, Kaladin defeats Szeth, and takes the Honorblade he carries.

Aftermath
Kaladin arrives at the Oathgate with the Honorblade, and encouters his men from Bridge Four who tells him how to use the Oathgate. He then reunites with the survivors of the battle in Urithiru.

Kaladin, having just stated the third ideal of the Windrunners, revealed his powers during the battle. He fought and killed Szeth, taking his Honorblade in the aftermath.
