After the [[Battle of Luthadel]], when [[Elend Venture]] takes control of [[Ashweather Cett|Cett]]'s and [[Straff]]'s armies, he establishes the New Empire. [[Vin]] kills Straff in the battle, and forces Straff's general [[Janarle]] as well as Cett to swear loyalty to Elend.
