When Adolin and Kaldin, the latter serving as the former's bodyguard, arrived to meet with Shallan at Sebarial's warcamp, Shallan is excited to see that [[Wit]] was their carriage driver. Shallan reveals that she had a past relationship with Wit as the court jester comforted her when she was a child. As Wit quickly disappears, the Shallan and Adolin decide to go visit the local menagerie. Despite being in the company of the stony-faced bodyguard, Shallan found that she enjoyed flirting with her Adolin. {{book ref|wor|55}}

While stuck in the chasm, Shallan began to warm up to Kaladin and realized that the two of them shared a few things in common such as both being broken. After revealing her Shardblade to Kaladin, they began to suspect one another of being Radiants.
