After his father is killed by [[Steelheart (Epic)|Steelheart]] on the [[Day of Annexation]] he begins researching [[Epic]]s and their weaknesses. He designs a plan to kill Steelheart, and is eventually recruited by the Reckoners. They successfully lead a plan which results in the destruction of Steelheart's government and the eventual death of Steelheart himself.{{book ref|Steelheart}}
